Nancy：yeh！what daya do？

Victor：what do you do？就是我们在问别人职业的时候常说的一句话。

Nancy：now listen to my pronunciation¹. What daya what daya what daya do?

Victor：What daya do?

Nancy：good! This is the way we ask someone² about their job.

“what daya do?”， it’s short for “what do you do for a living，”

but we don’t say “for a living” anymore³.

Victor：great! 我喜欢现在的英语，越说越“短”啦！

Nancy，what daya do? 对了，你挣多少钱呢？

Nancy：It’s always okay⁴ to ask someone about their job， it shows you’re interested⁵ in them. But you never， ever⁶ ask someone how much money they make.
