 　　The Christmas Fairy² 圣诞仙子

　　It was³ the day before Christmas. 那是圣诞节的前一天。

　　Two poor little children were out in the woods. 两个贫穷的小孩正在外面的森林里。

　　They wanted to find a Christmas tree. 他们想找一棵圣诞树。

　　Poor children! They had⁴ never had a Christmas tree. 可怜的孩子！他们从来都不曾有过一棵圣诞树。

　　"Oh, dear me!" said⁵ the little girl. “哦，天那”！小女孩说。

　　"We have nothing to put on a tree." “我们可没有可以挂到树上的东西”。

　　The boy said, "Maybe we can find a tree with cones⁷ on it. Cones make a tree very pretty."  男孩说，“或许我们可以找到一棵带松果的树。松果会让树看起来很漂亮”。

　　The poor little children looked and looked. But they could⁸ not find any trees with cones on them. 可怜的孩子们找啊找、找啊找。但是他们找不到带松果的树。

　　At last night came⁹. It was dark¹⁰ in the big woods, and the children could not find their way home. 后来，天黑下来了。大森林里漆黑一片，孩子们找不到回家的路。

　　"We are lost," said the little boy. “我们迷路了”，小男孩说。

　　"Let us sit here under a tree and wait until¹¹ morning." “我们坐到树下等到天亮吧”。

　　They were very, very tired, and before long the little girl fell¹² asleep¹³. 他们累极了，不一会儿，小女孩就睡着了。

　　"I must not go to sleep," said the boy. "I must take care¹⁴ of sister." “我一定不要睡觉”，男孩说。“我必须照看妹妹”。

　　He sat¹⁵ there a long, long time. 他在那儿坐了很长、很长的时间。

　　All at once he saw¹⁶ a light. 突然，他看见一丝亮光。

　　It grew bigger and bigger. 这亮光越来越大。

　　"Look, look, little sister!" he cried. “看呐，妹妹”，他喊道。

　　"See the beautiful light!"  “看那美丽的亮光”！

　　Just as¹ the little girl woke¹⁷ up, the children saw a beautiful fairy in the light. 就当小女孩醒来的时候，孩子们看到亮光里有一位美丽的仙子。

　　They had never seen¹⁸ a fairy before and were frightened¹⁹. 他们以前从来没有见过仙子，因此都很害怕。

　　The fairy said, "Don't be frightened. I am the Christmas Fairy. 仙子说，“你们不要害怕。我是圣诞仙子。

　　The night before Christmas I am always in the woods. 圣诞节前晚我都会来到这个森林。

　　I take care of children who come here, and I find the best Christmas trees for them."  我会照顾来这里的孩子们，而且我会给他们找到最好的圣诞树。”

　　"Come with me," said the fairy, "and we will find a Christmas tree." “跟我来”，仙子说，“我们会找到一棵圣诞树的”。

　　She took²⁰ them to a beautiful tree that had many, many cones on it. 她把他们带到了一棵漂亮的树前，树上有很多很多的球果。

　　Then the fairy said, "Little cones, light the tree." 这时，仙子说，“小松果，照亮树”。

　　And all at once each little cone⁶ was shining²¹ like the sun. 立刻每一颗小松果就像太阳一样闪闪发光。

　　"What a beautiful Christmas tree!" said the children.  “多么漂亮的圣诞树啊”！孩子们说。

　　"This is your tree," said the fairy. “这是你们的圣诞树了”，仙子说。

　　"Take it with you, and it will give you light all the way home." “带上它，它会一直照亮你们回家的路”。

　　"Thank you very much, dear fairy," said the happy children. “非常谢谢您，亲爱的仙子”，孩子们高兴地说。

　　Then they took the beautiful tree and soon found²² their way home. 然后他们带上那棵漂亮的圣诞树，很快就找到了回家的路。

　　They put the tree in the window, and all the people saw the cones shining on Christmas Day. 他们把圣诞树摆在窗口，圣诞节那天，人们都看到松果闪闪发光。
