 You Can Help Your Country  你能帮助你的祖国

Do you know what the word "citizen" means¹? 你知道单词“citizen”的意思吗？

It means "a person who lives in a country and belongs to it". 它是指“居住在一个国家并属于这个国家的人”。

So, you are a citizen of the United² States of America. It is your country. 所以，你是美利坚合众国的公民。美国是你的祖国。

It protects you and gives you many things to make you happy. 它保护你，并赋予你很多让你感到幸福的东西。

But your country cannot be great and free and happy unless its boys and girls do their part. 但是，只有大家都尽到自己的责任，祖国才能强大、自由和幸福。

Perhaps you think you have to wait until you are grown up before you can help your country. 或许你认为自己必须长大了才能为国效力，

But this is not true. 但事实并非如此。

When you play games hard and fairly³, study your lessons faithfully, and help about the home cheerfully⁴, 当你努力公平地比赛，全身心地投入学习、愉快地做家务时，

You are doing your everyday jobs just as well as you can, and that is what your country needs of you.  你每天尽自己所能得完成自己的工作，这就是国家需要你做的。
