 　　Soon Tonino and Mameto heard a gay sound of music, and a minute later they were on the Grand Place of Vence, 不久托尼诺和玛莫听到了欢快的音乐，一分钟后他们到达旺斯大广场

　　which is about five times as big as the Grand Place at Tonino's home in Nouvilo. 这是玛莫Nouvilo家中大广场的五倍大。

　　The Grand Place was crowded with people, for the big fair was in full swing. 大广场上挤满了人，大型集市正如火如荼地进行着。

　　There were two merry-go-rounds, one with horses and one with automobiles¹, 有两个旋转木马，一个是马，另一个是汽车，

　　and both of them played music as the horses and the automobiles whirled round and round. 当马和汽车不停地旋转时，就会有音乐响起。

　　Then there were ever so many amusement booths, each with a crowd standing² before it. 然后有许多好玩的摊位，每个摊位前都站满了人。

　　You won't be surprised to hear that Tonino forgot all about his pottery³ for a moment, 托尼诺一时忘记了陶器的事，你不会感到惊讶。

　　and wanted to climb down from the cart then and there and ride on the merry-go-rounds and visit every booth. 他想从车上下来，骑着旋转木马，然后参观每一个摊位。

　　But his Mameto told him that it would be much better to sell his pottery first. 但玛莫告诉他，最好先出售陶器。

　　Then he would have some money to spend at the fair. 然后他就有钱逛集市了。

　　Mameto had just caught sight of an inn with a picture of a golden pigeon over the door,  called "The Golden Pigeon Inn." 玛莫刚看到一家旅店，门上有一只金色的鸽子，叫作“金鸽子旅馆”。

　　The innkeeper was just as friendly as could be. 老板人非常好。

　　His inn was full, he said, as a lot of strangers had come to Vence for the fair. 他说客栈已经满了，因为很多外地人都来旺斯参观集市。

　　But he had a tiny room over the stable, with a big double bed. 但马厩旁边有一个小房间，房间里有一张大双人床。

　　The bed was so big that there was room for hardly any other furniture. 床太大了，几乎没有空间置放其他家具。

　　But it looked comfortable and clean, 但屋子看起来舒适干净，

　　and Tonino thought it very nice to be so close to Tintourlet in the stable below. 托尼诺认为，如此一来能接近下面马厩里丁图莱特真是太好了。

　　The innkeeper admired Tintourlet immensely. 旅店老板称赞丁图莱特。

　　He said: "You have a very fine donkey. He looks as if he could run fast. 他说：“你有头不错的驴子，看起来好像跑得很快。

　　Why don't you ride him in the donkey race this afternoon?" 你今天下午为什么不骑它去参加驴赛呢？”
