 Beowulf told of the strange animals that made their homes in that dark lake. 贝奥武夫讲述了那个住在暗湖里的怪物。

He told also of the piles of gold and silver which lay in the cave. 他还告诉我洞里有成堆的金银财宝。

"But I touched nothing of the treasure. “但是我一点也没有拿。

Not for gold did I go down into that dark lake, but to save the people of this land," he said. 我下到暗湖里不是为了金子，而是为了拯救这片土地上的人民。”他说。

At these words the Danes shouted and cheered in their love for this brave hero. 听到这些话，丹麦人为这位勇敢的英雄而欢呼。

Never had men heard such a story as this which Beowulf told. 人们从来没有听过像贝奥武夫这样的故事。

"0 Beowulf" said the king, "you are a true warrior¹. 国王说：“贝奥武夫，你是一个真正的勇士。

Your name shall be known² everywhere for your brave battles." 你将因你的英勇善战而家喻户晓。”

Then Hrothgar commanded that a feast³ be prepared. 然后赫罗斯加国王吩咐人预备筵席。

Beowulf sat at the king's right hand, and all were happy. 贝奥武夫坐在国王的右手边，大家都很高兴。

Now everyone could enter the beautiful hall without fear. 现在每个人都可以毫无畏惧地进入美丽的大殿。

Beowulf's work in the land of the Danes was now done, and he was eager to return home. 贝奥武夫在丹麦的任务经完成，他盼望回到家乡。

Calling his warriors⁴, he went with them to the king to say farewell⁵, and to thank him for the rich gifts he had given them. 他叫来了他的勇士一起去见国王，向国王告别，并感谢国王送给他们丰厚的礼物。

"If ever again I can help you, my lord⁶, I will come to you with joy," said Beowulf. 贝奥武夫说：“亲爱的国王，如果有需要我的地方，我会很开心帮助你们。”

The old king thanked Beowulf and gave him more beautiful gifts than before. 年迈的国王向贝奥武夫表示了感谢，并送上比之前更好的礼物。
