The hills, rock-ribbed, and ancient as the sun; the vales stretching in pensive¹ quietness between;

群山像太阳一般古老，冥顽；山谷在沉思的静谧中延伸；

The venerable woods, rivers that move in majesty², and the complaining brooks³, that make the meadows green;

岁月砥砺下的森林，浩浩汤汤的江河，哀怨低诉的小溪，让草地青绿；

and, poured round all, old Ocean's gray and melancholy⁴ waste,

灌溉四方，那灰暗而忧郁的大洋自古这样，

Are but the solemn decorations all of the great tomb of man.

不过是人类这座大墓庄严的饰物而已。

The golden sun, the planets, all the infinite host of heaven,

金黄色太阳，行星，天空中所有无边无际的星宿，

are shining on the sad abodes⁵ of death, through the still lapse⁶ of ages.

穿过静静流逝的岁月，一齐照耀这个凄凉的死居。

All that tread the globe are but a handful to the tribes that slumber⁷ in its bosom⁸.

所有踏在地球上的人沧海一粟，而睡在大地怀抱中的却是难以计数的氏族。

Take the wings Of morning, pierce the Barcan wilderness⁹, or lose thyself in the continuous woods where rolls the Oregon,

清晨振翅，飞越巴尔卡荒漠，抑或在连绵不断的树林里迷失，那里，俄勒冈河波浪滔滔，

and hears no sound save his own dashings, yet the dead are there;

除了呼啸奔腾的声音，什么也听不见——但逝者在那里；

And millions in those solitudes¹⁰, since first the flight of years began, have laid them down in their last sleep,
