Yesterday...Today...AND Tomorrow 昨天，今天，还有明天

There are two days in every week that we should not worry about,

two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension¹.

One is Yesterday, with its mistakes and cares, its faults and

blunders, its aches and pains.

Yesterday has passed, forever beyond our control.

All the money in the world cannot bring back Yesterday.

We cannot undo² a single act we performed.

Nor can we erase³ a single word we said - Yesterday is gone!

The other day we shouldn't worry about is Tomorrow with its

impossible adversities, its burdens, its large promise and poor

performance. Tomorrow is beyond our immediate⁴ control.

Tomorrow's sun will rise, either in splendor⁵ or behind a mask of

clouds - but it will rise. Until it does, we have no stake in Tomorrow, for it is yet unborn.

This leaves only one day - Today. Any man can fight the battles

of just one day; it is only when you or I add the burdens of those two awful eternities- Yesterday and Tomorrow- that we break down.

It is not the experience of Today that drives man mad -

It is remorse⁶ or bitterness for something which happened Yesterday, and the dread⁷ of what Tomorrow may bring.

Let us, therefore, live One Day at a Time!

每个礼拜有两天我们不用去担心，没有恐惧，没有忧愁。

其中一天是昨天，有过错误和忧虑、过失和失误、辛酸和痛苦。

昨天已经过去，不再受我们控制。

世界上所有的钱都不能把昨天带回来。我们不能为过去的事反悔，

我们不能擦去我们说过的每一个字，因为，昨天已经过去了。

另一天我们不用担心的是明天，明天可能有逆境、负担，

即有着很大的希望，又有糟糕的表现。明天同样不为我们所控制。

明天的太阳会升起，不管它是光芒四射还是笼罩着云彩，它一定会升起来。

直到它出现之前，我们对于明天没有任何把握，因为它还没有发生。

只剩下一天——今天。任何人都只能生活在“今天”；

当你我背负起永远存在的“昨天”和“明天”带来的压力，我们就会被压垮。

使一个人发疯的不是今天的遭遇，而是昨天的悲伤或痛苦和对明天的恐惧。

因此，让我们过好生活中的每一天。

1 apprehension   

n.理解，领悟；逮捕，拘捕；忧虑

• There were still areas of doubt and her apprehension grew.有些地方仍然存疑，于是她越来越担心。

2 undo   

vt.解开，松开；取消，撤销

• His pride will undo him some day.他的傲慢总有一天会毁了他。
• I managed secretly to undo a corner of the parcel.我悄悄地设法解开了包裹的一角。

3 erase   

v.擦掉；消除某事物的痕迹

参考例句：

• He tried to erase the idea from his mind.他试图从头脑中抹掉这个想法。
• Please erase my name from the list.请把我的名字从名单上擦去。

4 immediate   

adj.立即的；直接的，最接近的；紧靠的

参考例句：

• His immediate neighbours felt it their duty to call.他的近邻认为他们有责任去拜访。
• We declared ourselves for the immediate convocation of the meeting.我们主张立即召开这个会议。

5 splendor   

n.光彩；壮丽，华丽；显赫，辉煌

参考例句：

• Never in his life had he gazed on such splendor.他生平从没有见过如此辉煌壮丽的场面。
• All the splendor in the world is not worth a good friend.人世间所有的荣华富贵不如一个好朋友。

6 remorse   

n.痛恨，悔恨，自责

参考例句：

• She had no remorse about what she had said.她对所说的话不后悔。
• He has shown no remorse for his actions.他对自己的行为没有任何悔恨之意。

7 dread   

vt.担忧，忧虑；惧怕，不敢；n.担忧，畏惧

参考例句：

• We all dread to think what will happen if the company closes.我们都不敢去想一旦公司关门我们该怎么办。
• Her heart was relieved of its blankest dread.她极度恐惧的心理消除了。
