The demonstrations¹ came as the two countries begin talks to resolve the long-standing dispute.

(First of all) SIMMERING RESENTMENT²

The disagreement started nearly 30 years ago, when the former Yugoslav republic declared independence and chose its name.

Opponents say it implies a territorial³ claim over Greece’s northern region, which is also called Macedonia.
