 Qian Zhongshu, a Chinese Literary scholar and writer,

钱钟书，中国文学研究家、作家，

was born on the 21st November, 1910 in Wuxi, Jiangsu.

1910年11月21日出生于江苏无锡，

He is known for his burning wit and formidable erudition.

以惊人的才智和博学著称。

His achievement in literature, ancient learning，comparative literature,and Cultural Critique was dubbed¹ the title of "Qian Xue".

他在文学、国学、比较文学及文化批评等领域都取得了巨大的成就，被冠以“钱学”的称号。

Qian was accepted into the Department of Foreign Languages of Tsinghua University in 1929 because of his excellent performance in Chinese and English languages.

1929年，鉴于他出色的汉语和英语水平，钱钟书被清华大学外国语学院录取。

He graduated with honors four years later.

四年后，他以优异的成绩毕业。

In 1935, Qian received government scholarship to pursue his studies at Exeter College, Oxford² in Britain.

In the same year, he married Yangjiang, who was to become a successful translator and playwright³.

同年与未来的著名翻译家、作家杨绛结婚。

After returning to China in 1938, he taught in many schools due to the unstable⁴ situation during the Second Sino-Japanese War.

1938年回国后，由于当时抗日战争的动荡局势，他曾在多所高校任教。

In 1949, when the People's Republic of China was founded,he was appointed a professor in his alma mater Tsinghua University.

1949年新中国成立后，钱钟书被母校清华大学聘为教授。

He was instated as the deputy director of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in his old age, and died at the age of 88.

晚年就职于中国社会科学院任副院长，并于88岁与世长辞。

After spending two years to study English Literature at Exeter College,Qian received his Bachelor of Literature.

During this period, he spent almost all his time reading,
