 November 8th, 1923Nazi leader Adolf Hitler makes his first attempt to seize power in Germany. He launches a failed coup¹ in the city of Munich, an event that becomes known as the Beer Hall Putsch. Hitler ultimately achieves his goal when he becomes Germany's dictator in the following decade.

1960,“I don’t believe in big government, but I believe in effective government election.” Democrat² John F. Kennedy wins the presidency³, beating Republican Richard Nixon in a close finish. The Senator from Massachusetts edges out the incumbent⁴ Vice⁵ President by fewer than 120-thousand votes. “The election may be a close one, but I think there is a general agreement by all of our citizens, that its supreme⁶ national effort will be needed in the years ahead, to move this country safely through the 1960’s.”
