I began this book by acknowledging that women in the developed world are better off than ever, but the goal of true equality still eludes¹ us. 从这本书一开始我就提到，发达国家的女性现状好过以往任何时候，但我们距离真正的平等这个目标还很遥远。

So how do we move forward? 那么应该如何往前推进呢？

First, we must decide that true equality is long overdue² and will be achieved only when more women rise to the top of every government and every industry. 首先，我们必须认识到，真正的平等是长久以来人们所期待的，只有更多女性进入政府各部门和各行业的高层，这个目标才会实现。

Then we have to do the hard work of getting there. 其次，我们要为进入组织高层而不懈努力。

All of us—men and women alike—have to understand and acknowledge how stereotypes³ and biases⁴ cloud our beliefs and perpetuate⁵ the status quo. 所有人，不管男性还是女性，都必须理解并承认，旧观念和成见遮蔽着我们的信念，让我们停滞不前。

Instead of ignoring our differences, we need to accept and transcend⁶ them. 我们不是要忽视差异，而是要接受并跨越它们。

For decades, we have focused on giving women the choice to work inside or outside the home. 几十年来，我们总在关注女性应该选择在家还是在外工作，

We have celebrated⁷ the fact that women have the right to make this decision, and rightly so. 我们因为女性有这样的选择权而欢呼雀跃。

But we have to ask ourselves if we have become so focused on supporting personal choices that we're failing to encourage women to aspire⁸ to leadership. 这样做并没有错，但我们得问问自己，是不是过分地关注了女性的个人选择，而没能鼓励她们去发展自己的领导力呢？

It is time to cheer on girls and women who want to sit at the table, seek challenges, and lean in to their careers. 是时候鼓励那些想要“往桌前坐”、敢于寻求挑战、追求事业成功的女性勇敢往前冲了。

Today, despite all of the gains we have made, neither men nor women have real choice. 今天，尽管社会已经有了很大的发展，但无论男性还是女性，都很难做出真正的选择。

 

1 eludes
