Hail, beauteous stranger of the grove¹!

致敬，林中美丽的新来者！

Thou messenger of spring!

你是春天的使者！

Now Heaven repairs thy rural seat,

上天在田园里安排你的位置，

And woods thy welcome sing.

森林在为欢迎你而欢唱。

What time the daisy decks the green,

何时雏菊将大地装点成一片碧绿，

Thy certain voice we hear; —

我们一定能听到你婉转的鸣啼，—

Hast thou a star to guide thy path,

你有日月星辰为你导航，

Or mark the rolling year?

亦或是你的到来标记了流年？

Delightful² visitant! with thee

可爱的访客啊！与你一起

I hail the time of flowers,

我向花之季致敬，

And hear the sound of music sweet

从树荫之中栖息的鸟儿们那里，

From birds among the bowers⁴.

The school-boy, wandering through the wood

顽皮的学童徘徊在林间

To pluck the primrose⁵ gay,

采下一株鲜艳的报春花，

Starts, thy curious voice to hear,

你奇特的鸣啼惊了他一跳，

And imitates thy lay.

What time the pea puts on the bloom,

何时豌豆花绽放，

Thou fliest the vocal⁶ vale,

你活泼的歌声就再听不见，

An annual guest, in other lands

一年一度的客人啊，你已飞到别处

Another spring to hail.

Sweet bird! thy bower³ is ever green,

可爱的鸟儿啊！有你的树荫永远常青，

Thy sky is ever clear;

你的天空永远澄澈；

Thou hast no sorrow in thy song,

你的歌声里没有忧伤，

No winter in thy year.

你的生命里亦没有严冬。

Oh! could I fly, I'd fly with thee;

We'd make, with joyful⁷ wing,

Our annual visit o'er the globe,
