The golfer's very public apology for private failing is digested in today's papers, some see it as a significant cultural event, while others' taken a nine-nine to his scripted pleas for forgiveness.
On American TV, the performance was aslo dissected¹. "One of the most famous people in the world, known for being cool under pressure, standing² humbly³ and nervously⁴ before a national audience on live television."
"I was unfaithful, I had affairs, I cheated, what I did is not acceptable." Practice stopped in this golf club in a suburb of Chicago to listen to the 13 minutes and 31 seconds of sorry, most were supportive.
"There are so many young boys and girls out there, they are really really look up to Tiger, and I am glad he addressed them. And hopefully, over time they'll realize that he is an adult, and adults make mistakes."
"I don't really think that it matters that he has to apologize to all of us, but I think he should get a divorce and move on.''
Two of Tiger Woods' main sponsors, Nike and Electronic Arts have said that they will stand by the golfer and they look forward to his return to golf. But of course, so does that PGA Tour, not for sentimental⁵ reasons, Tiger Woods is  big business.
TV ratings soar when Woods participates. Unsurprisingly, the PGA Tour's boss is supporting his errant star.
"The important thing is he comes back when he is ready, when he's dealt with the issues that he has to deal with. At a point, when he thinks he can win golf tournaments, whether that's three weeks from now, or six months from now, those are decisions he has to make."
These players at the Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona didn't  begrudge⁶ the player, his mea culpa.
"For me, it's water under bridge, I am just looking forward to have him back on tour, and I am actually excited to see him back, so it's good to see that he has been well."
"I am glad he came out and said something, but you know, I just think everyone should go on with their own lives now, and let him go on with this, just want to get him back on the course."
The team which help devise the apology, will be hoping a drew a line in the fairway, but will be aware his repeated indiscretions have created a significant handicap to the multi-million dollar brand.
