The charges were lead to protests in May following the reelection of President Putin. Oleg Boldyrev, a reporter for the BBC's Russian service was in court.

Speaking to journalists before the verdict, Mr. Udaltsov said that he considered the new restrictions a purely¹⁷ political move.
