The Mayor of Baltimore declares a state of emergency as violent clashes break out following the funeral of a man who died after being injured in police custody¹. Bill Vanko from Baltimore radio station WBAL tells us how the situation in the US state of Maryland has escalated² over the past days and weeks. At least 4,000 are known to be dead after a devastating³ earthquake in Nepal. We hear how volunteers have joined the search for survivors⁴ over the internet. Patrick Meier, Director of Social Innovation at the Qatar Computing⁵ Research Institute explains the concept of "digital humanitarians⁶". We look at the significance of of the new US and Japan military cooperation agreement. From Boston, we are joined by Nina MacLaughlin, a journalist who quit her job to become a carpenter and has written all about her experiences.
