Destiny's Child （命运之子）是一个最近崛起的节奏与布鲁斯女子组合。现在人们已将她们和过去的节奏布鲁斯女子超级组合Supremes（至高无上）摆在一起比较。

虽然和同在一间公司的前辈比起来还有很大的差距，但 Destiny's Child飞速成长的轨迹、于瞬间爆发出的惊人的光芒已引来了各方的注目。同Supremes一样，Destiny's Child 也是一支内部纷争不断的演唱组。在另一方面，她们的成功主要来自于刻苦进取、持之不懈的精神。这支演唱组成立至今差不多已有10年，但组员均未超过20岁。她们年岁虽小，但演唱水平足以与年长她们一倍的歌手匹敌。

Destiny's Child 在大公司旗下首次推出的作品是歌曲“Killing⁶ time”（杀戮时刻），这首歌出现在电影《黑衣人》的原声专辑。数月后，这首歌又被收录进 Destiny's Child 的首张同名专辑中。这张专辑于1998年2月17日对外发行。就在该专辑发行的同时，她们演唱的一首名为“No, No, No” （不，不，不）的歌掀起了流行的狂潮。这首 Remix 风格的歌由Fugees演唱组的Wyclef Jean担任制作，一经播放便成为全国迪科舞厅的首选热门伴奏曲 。并且它的单曲唱片突破了金唱片销量。在这之后的几个月中，Destiny's Child 随 Boyz II Men、K-Ci＆·Jo Jo和Uncle Sam踏上了巡回演出的征程。这辛苦的工作为她们在年底创下了丰收——Destiny's Child获得了1998年度的灵歌类音乐奖项中的3项“灵歌火车女士”奖。
[歌词讲解]

1. better在歌词中是good的比较级形式，有一个关于better的习语大家应该知道，就是better off without sb/sth，表示“如果没有某人某物会更快乐和自在”，比如说，I'd be better off without him. 没有他我会更加快乐。我想这也是整首歌曲的意义所在。

2. laugh hard就是指“大声地，开心地笑”，跟laugh loud/laugh out loud差不多。有一个关于laugh的习语，相信大家都很熟悉，就是He who laughs last laughs longes/best.就是说“笑到最后的人才是笑得最好的”，用来提醒某人不要过早高兴或庆幸胜利。还有一个在口语中常用的词组，就是laugh sth off 一笑置之，付之一笑，比如说，An actor has to learn to laugh off bad reviews. 一个演员必须学会对批评性评论一笑置之。最后，再说一个跟laugh有关的词组，laugh sb out of sth，逗某人发笑来忘记某个问题，比如说，He could tell she was in a bad mood, and tried to make her laugh out of it.他看出她心情不好，想逗她笑好让她不再想烦恼的事情。

3. 这里大家要注意wise 和smart之间的区别，smart表示“聪明的，伶俐的”，比如说，It was smart of you to bring a map. 你真聪明，能想到带张地图。而wise表示“有判断力的，有知识的”，虽然也有“聪明的”这个意思在里面，但是wise更加侧重于说明“随着年龄的增长而带来的人生智慧”。

4. I'm chillin'也可以说成I’m being cool.

5. sell 在这里表示“让某人相信某事物或者某人很好，有用，有可取之处”，比如说，You have to sell yourself at a job interview. 在进行求职面试的时候，要尽量展示自己的优点。歌词中说Sold 9 million并不是说真的卖了900万，而更倾向于表示“离开了那个人之后，自己的身价倍增”。

6. survive表示“继续生活，继续存在”，比如说，Many strange customs survived from earlier times. 有些古怪的习俗到现在还存在。Life is hard at the moment, but we're surviving. 目前生活很艰难，但是我们还在挣扎求生。

7. breathe表示“呼吸”，而inhale表示“吸入”，跟breathe in 相对应。跟inhale相反的是exhale，就是breathe out，表示“呼出”。

8. last 表示“延续，持续，维持”，比如说，He won't last long in that job ---it's too tough for him. 他那个工作干不了多久，对他来说太难。last也可以表示“活下来，忍受得住”，比如说，She's very ill and probably won't last the night. 她病得太厉害了，可能熬不过今晚了。

9. self destruct 指“自我毁灭”，也可以说成destruct myself。

10. I'm better than that我比你想的好得多。在口语中，大家经常会听到别人说，You know me better than that. 意思就是说，“你这么了解我，应该知道我不会那么做的”。我们来举个例子，---Don't tell me you're gonna get back together with him. ---Oh, come on! You know me better than that. I'm not. ---别告诉我你要跟他复合。---得了，你知道我不会的。

11. blast在这里表示“严厉地批评，痛斥某人或者某事物”，比如说，The movie was blasted⁷ by the critics. 这部电影遭到影评家的猛烈攻击。

12. diss在R&B歌曲中是“鄙视，糟蹋”的意思。

13. posterity是指“子孙，后裔”，比如说，Posterity will remember him as a truly great man. 他的子孙永远不会忘记他是真正的伟人。在歌词中是指“今后的生活”。
