Following Sunday visits by U.S. secretaries of state and defense¹ to Kyiv, the White House is seeking congressional approval to significantly increase the amount of aid it is providing Ukraine as that country's war with Russia moves into its third month.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki was asked by a reporter on Monday just how much money the U.S. government is willing to provide Ukraine.

Nearly three and a half billion dollars worth of U.S. military and other assistance has been delivered to Ukraine since February 24 when Russia invaded its neighbor to the west.

Ukraine's government is seeking an economic aid alone - 2 billion dollars per month from the United States.

The United States believes Kyiv can win the war against Russia if it has "the right equipment," Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin said on Monday, as strikes on railway infrastructure² in central Ukraine killed at least five.

A landmark³ visit by Austin and Secretary of State Blinken to Ukraine came as the war entered its third month, with thousands killed and millions displaced by the fighting.

After the talks, Austin said the U.S. hoped the Russian military would be exhausted⁴ in Ukraine.
