 339. The Oregon Treaty, 1846. 339．俄勒冈条约（1846年）

The matter was now taken up in earnest.  此时到了认真解决这个问题的时候，

"All Oregon or none," "Fifty-four forty or fight," became popular cries. "全占或放弃，只有一个俄勒冈"、"54度到40度，否则就开战"成为当时流行的口号。

The United States gave notice of the ending of the joint¹ occupation. 美国政府发出结束共同占有俄勒冈的声音，

The British government suggested that Oregon should be divided between the two nations. 英国政府则建议将俄勒冈分割给两个国家。

In 1818 he boundary between the United States and British North America had been fixed² as the forty-ninth parallel from the Lake of the Woods to the Rocky Mountains. 1818年美国与美洲北部英国领地的界限被确定为从伍兹湖到落基山脉与49度纬线平行的一条线，

It was now proposed to continue this line to the Pacific. 现在美国提出将这条线延长到太平洋。
