部分州遭大雨侵袭,而中西部则寒流来袭

Heavy rains have caused severe flooding in states like North Carolina, New Mexico and Utah, while a cold front in the Midwest has residents2 reaching for their jackets in July. The Weather Channel's Kim Cunningham reports.

大雨在北卡罗来纳州,新墨西哥州以及犹他州引起了严重的洪水,而在中西部一股寒流让人们在七月穿上了夹克衫。气象频道的Kim Cunningham报道。

Severe weather has residents of several states on alert as people in North Carolina remain without power after flash flooding wiped out homes and dozens of roads. The weather channel's Kim Cunningham has more for us.

reporter: a deluge3 of rain caused major flooding and widespread power outages in North Carolina this weekend. As much as 8 to 10 inches of rain fell in the western part of the state in 12 hours. Officials declared the state of emergency and close 50 to 60 roads in Catawba County4. At least 6 will be stay close for 3 months. The heavy rain was also blamed for the death of a 10-year-old girl and disappearance5 of a 48-year-old man who were swept away while swimming in a creek6 100 miles north of Charlotte.

We're trying to bring closure and help those folks be able to find their loved ones.

reporter: Heavy rains and record winds of up to 89 miles per hour also hit New Mexico and flood part of southern Utah.

In the 12 years I've lived here I've never seen this amount of water.

reporter: Some states even set record lows. Well, just a week after that deadly heat wave, we now have temperatures much cooler than the average. What this is doing is allowing cold air from the north to spill out of the Canada and into the U.S. Stanley Idaho had a independenter-like, 34 degrees this morning. and Sioux city Iowa had its coolest morning since 1995 with a low of 44. and here on South Dakota, deep to 41 degrees, the coldest july reading since 1992. Hovering7 along the low 60s, it was warmer yesterday in Alaska than it was in Chicago, Illinois. Good news for the folks running the big champion in Chicago.

We were actually pretty worried that it was going to be like last week, you know in the 90s. That would be in a way worse.

Yeah.

So this is for runners perfect temperatures.

reporter: A strong cold front is now making its way east which could mean more flooding ahead. And you know, we've seen flooding already in Philadelphia. Over 5 inches of rain in just three hours. All because of this cold front and all the moisture8 coming northward9. We're going to see thunderstorms tonight through tomorrow even into New England. We could see heavy rain and possibility of flash flooding. Once this exits, then we're going to focus our attention in the pacific. We're watching tropical10 storm flossie head toward11 the hawaiian islands.

Alright. Kim Cunningham from the weather channel, thank you.
