Tibetan mastiffs used to be a coveted² breed of canine³ in China. As a Tibetan mastiff puppy fetched a record-breaking price in what may be in world's most expensive dog sale for close to 12 million Yuan or (2 million US Dollars) in 2014.

But in 2017, the price of Tibetan mastiffs collapsed⁴. Local residents in Qinghai Province and Tibet Autonomous⁵ Region report Tibetan mastiffs at large are posing threat to resident safety and the local ecosystem⁶.
