Winners

成功者

Muriel James & Dorothy Jongeward(缪里尔·詹姆斯 多萝西·钟沃德)

Each human being is born as something new, something that never existed before. He is born

with what he needs to win at life. Each person in his own way can see, hear, touch, taste, and think

for himself. Each has his unique potentials — his capabilities1 and limitations. Each can be a

significant, thinking, aware, and creatively productive person in his own right — a winner.

Winners do not dedicate their lives to a concept of what they imagine they should be; rather,

they are themselves as such do not use their energy putting on a performance, maintaining

pretence2, and manipulating others. They are aware that there is a difference between being loving

and acting3 loving, between being stupid and acting stupid, between being knowledgeable4 and

acting knowledgeable. Winners do not need to hide behind a mask.

Winners have different potentials. Achievement is not the most important thing. Authenticity6

is. The authentic5 person experiences the reality of himself by knowing himself, being

himself, and becoming a credible7 , responsive person. He actualizes his own unprecedented8

uniqueness and appreciates the uniqueness of others.

A winner is not afraid to do his own thinking and to use his own knowledge. He can separate

facts from opinions and doesn't pretend to have all the answers. He listens to others, evaluates

what they say, but comes to his own conclusions. While he can admire and respect other people,

he is not totally defined, bound, or awed9 by them.

Winners do not play “helpless”, nor do they play the blaming game. Instead, they assume

responsibility for their own lives. They do not give others a false authority over them. Winners are

their own bosses and know it.

A winner's timing10 is right. Winners respond appropriately to the situation. Their responses are

related to the message sent and preserve the significance, worth, wellbeing, and dignity of the

people involved. Winners know that for everything there is a season and for every activity a time.

A winner can be spontaneous . He doesn't have to respond in predetermined , rigid11

ways. He can change his plans when the situation calls for it. A winner has a zest12 for life. He

enjoys work, play, food, other people, and the world of nature. Without guilt13 he enjoys his own

accomplishments14. Without envy he enjoys the accomplishments of others.

Although a winner can freely enjoy himself, he can also postpone15 enjoyment16. He can

discipline himself in the present to enhance his enjoyment in the future. He is not afraid to go after

what he wants but does so in appropriate ways. He does not get his security by controlling others.

A winner cares about the world and its people. A winner is not isolated17 from the general

problems of society, but is concerned, compassionate18 and committed to improving the quality

of life. Even in the face of national and international adversity , he does not see himself as

totally powerless. A winner does what he can to make the world a better place.
