A few minutes went by and then a wild wind started to blow.
几分钟过去了，一阵风吹了起来。
As it
shrieked1 and moaned, the poor little sufferer was blown to and fro like the hammer of a bell.
风尖叫怒号起来，把吊在那里的可怜受难者吹来吹去像钟锤。
The rocking made him
seasick2 and the
noose3, becoming tighter and tighter, choked him.
这晃动使得他晕船，绞索越收越紧，叫他窒息。
Little by little a film covered his eyes.

Death was creeping nearer and nearer, and the
Marionette4 still hoped for some good soul to come to his rescue, but no one appeared.
死亡越走越近，木偶还在希望会有好人经过把他救下来，可没有人出现。
As he was about to die, he thought of his poor old father, and hardly conscious of what he was saying, murmured to himself:
就在他快死的时候，他想到了他可怜的爸爸，他几乎是无意识的哑声对自己说：
"Oh, Father, dear Father! If you were only here!"
“噢，爸爸，亲爱的爸爸！要是你在这儿就好了！”
These were his last words.
这些就是他最后的话。
He closed his eyes, opened his mouth, stretched out his legs, and hung there, as if he were dead.
他闭上眼睛，张开嘴巴，伸长两腿，一吊在那里像是死了。
