西南财经大学口语课上学生竟教外教打麻将!

 An oral English class at a university in Sichuan province recently stumbled upon a way to improve communication skills: the students, from Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) taught their foreign teacher how to play mahjong.

日前，在四川省一所大学的英语口语课上，出现了一种罕见的提高沟通技巧的授课方法：即西南财经的同学们教他们的外教老师打麻将。

The unusual classroom activity was first publicized on the microblog of a SWUFE student surnamed Huang.

这种独特的授课方式最先是被西南财经大学一位姓黄的同学发布到微博上去的。

In the picture he uploaded, a foreign lady is looking at the mahjong tile in her hand beside a makeshift table of three desks. Next to her is a Chinese girl, advising the woman on her next move.

从微博的配图中我们可以看到，在一张由三张课桌拼成的桌子上，一位外国女性正在旁边一位中国女学生的指导下，认真地看着手上的牌。

According to Huang, the mahjong game happened as part of an oral English class for freshmen¹.

根据这位姓黄的同学表示，打麻将是大一同学上口语课时发生的事。

The foreigner is a teacher named Mary, who is originally from Kenya. Huang said that mary asked the students to bring a board game to class in order to improve their English communication ability. Mahjong proved to be the most popular.

照片上的老师是来自肯尼亚的外教玛丽。姓黄的同学表示，玛丽老师本来是让同学们将任意一种桌游带进课堂，目的是为了增加大家英语口语沟通能力。结果证明，麻将还是最受欢迎的桌游。

Huang thought it was an interesting class. Though some people questioned the foreign teacher's professionalism, Huang held that her unusual method stimulates² students' desire for studying and actually did improve their communication skills.

黄同学认为这节课非常有趣。虽然有些人因此质疑这位外教的职业精神，但黄同学认为，正是她这种别开生面的教学方式激发了同学们学习的热情，并且也确实提高了同学们的英语沟通能力。
