Telstra intends to fight government plans to split it in two. The telecommunication's giant says the breaking up of the company will hurt consumers and shareholders4 alike.
"Members are angry. And they want shareholder3, in fact, they...they want Telstra to take this line. They want Telstra to stand up and be counted."
Telstra's competitors say the counter-attack is only a matter of time.

A government spokesman says communications with Telstra are still positive.
In the US, Tech shares have pushed Wall Street higher. Stocks rose as investors5 anticipated some positive news out of next week's earnings6 reports. Australian shares slipped slightly on Friday with investors' cautious ahead of the release of those reports.
