 Australian skipper Jimmy Spithill has led the team USA  to victory in the America's Cup.  The American team won the last eight races to snatch victory from New Zealand. Today also happens to mark the 30th anniversary of Australia's historic America's Cup win. 

 

Green's leader Christine Milne insists her leadership is not in doubt after six of her senior staff quit. One of them has blamed fundamental differences of opinion over strategy, but senator Milne says their differences were only about office matters.

 

The death toll¹ from a powerful earthquake in Pakistan has passed 320 and is expected to keep rising. Rescuers have been searching for survivors² in the southern provice of Baluchistan. And lawyers acting⁵ for the man who raped⁶ and murdered Melbourne woman Jill Meagher will return to court today in a bid to reduce his sentence. In June, 41-year-old Adrian Ernest Bayley was given life with a non-parole period of 35 years.
