Chinese authorities have reviewed a guideline in promoting high-quality development in the central region of the country.

Officials say the region has rich resources, well-developed transport networks, and a sound industrial foundation.

They have called for efforts to build a modern industrial system based on advanced manufacturing to facilitate high-level opening up, and to promote coordinated¹ development between urban and rural areas.

They also add that basic public services should be improved, while rural revitalization should be advanced.

The World Health Organization has released a report on the global tracing of the origins of COVID-19.

This follows joint² research involving experts from the WHO and China in Wuhan, a city once hit hard by the pandemic.

The research focused on issues including the pathways of the virus and future investigation³ in different countries.

The report says it's likely that COVID-19 was introduced through an intermediate host, but it's also possible it was introduced through cold chain products.

It says that introduction through a lab incident is extremely unlikely.

The experts have also put forward a series of recommendations for future research.

They include developing an information database, conducting further research on earlier cases and possible hosts, and analyzing⁴ the different role of the cold chain in the possible introduction and spread of the virus.

Zimbabwe has received its third shipment of COVID-19 vaccine⁵ doses from the Chinese company Sinovac.

Zimbabwe has so far authorized⁶ the use of four COVID-19 vaccines⁷ — Sinopharm and Sinovac from China, Sputnik from Russia, and Covaxin from India.

Leaders from Russia, Germany and France have held a video-conference to discuss cooperation and international affairs, including joining efforts against COVID-19.

The Kremlin says the meeting explored the possibility of registering, using and producing the Russian vaccine Sputnik in EU countries.

As for the situation in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin urged Kiev to fulfill⁸ agreements on establishing direct dialogue with Donbass and settling the legal issues regarding the region's special status.

During the meeting with German Chancellor⁹ Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, Putin reiterated¹⁰ Russia's readiness to restore "normal, depoliticized" interactions with the EU, if the bloc¹¹ shows reciprocal interest.

They also discussed the Iranian nuclear issue and the situations in Syria and Libya.

The teenager who shot the widely seen video of George Floyd's arrest has taken the stand to testify at Derek Chauvin's trial.

Prosecutors¹³ led off their case by playing part of the harrowing bystander video of Floyd's arrest.

Questioned by Prosecutor¹² Jerry Blackwell, Darnella Frazer told the court that she saw Floyd on the ground and Chauvin with his knee on Floyd's neck.

Blackwell: "What was it about the scene that caused you to come back?"

Frazer: "He wasn't right. He was suffering. He was in pain."

The 18-year-old told the court that she was on her way to a convenience store with her young cousin when she came upon the incident.

A visibly emotional Frazer said she sent the girl inside the store because she didn't want her to see a man terrified and begging for his life.

China has sent a new Earth observation satellite into space from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.

Gaofen-12 02 successfully entered its planned orbit.

The satellite will be used in land surveys, urban planning, road network design, crop yield estimates, and disaster relief.
