Simple Plan: Singing Exactly How We Feel
Simple Plan consists of five members: Pierre Bouvier -- Lead vocals1, Charles Comeau AKA1 Chuck--Drums, Jeff Stinco--Lead guitar, David Desrosiers--Bass and back vocals, Sebastian Lefebvre AKA Seb -- Guitar and back vocals. These five amazingly good-looking guys come out of good old Montreal Canada!! Jeff, Chuck, Seb, and Pierre all went to the same high school. They eventually formed a band, but they needed a new bassist. So they recruited Dave. Together they formed Simple Plan.
When Simple Plan released their 2002 debut2, No Helmets2, No Pads,... Just Balls, the band more than just hit the ground running. Just inside of a year, Simple Plan crossed five continents and played over 300 shows. Along the way, the band picked up a few hundred thousand fans, scored3 a Gold album in home country Canada as well as Japan, and sold out their first ever tour of Japan.
Simple Plan's expertly crafted4 tunes3 are predominantly5 penned by Chuck and Pierre, then brought to life by the entire band. Despite the manic6 pop thrills of tracks7 like Worst Day Ever and God Must Hate Me, Simple Plan's songs are marked by a strikingly8 dark9 lyrical core.
“After writing most of the record, we realized that we had a bunch of catchy410songs with really emotional lyrics,” Chuck says. “There's lots of people out there who are not really satisfied with what's going on in their lives, and it's the same thing for us. It's so hard to grow up and fit in.”
“We know what kids go through, because we've been through that, and we're still going through it, so we know how hard it is.” Pierre agrees. “We want kids to feel like we're talking about them and for them. It's such a good feeling to receive a letter or an e-mail from someone who relates11 to our songs and says ‘you're singing about exactly what I feel.'”
That band-to-fan connection is noticeably apparent in the album's introductory single, I'm Just A Kid. With a debut album that's everything they'd hoped it would be, and some experiences they never could have imagined, Simple Plan spent 2003 bringing No Helmets, No Pads, ... Just Balls to the kids both home and abroad.
