More than 40 world leaders linked arms to march through Paris Sunday. Joining a sea of mourners who flooded Paris’ Republic Square, as a traumatic week comes to a close in France. Hundreds of thousands of Parisians participated in a mass march for unity¹ following the deadly attacks at weekly satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Officials say this is the largest demonstration² in French history.

Police in Hamburg, Germany detained two men early Sunday, suspected of an arson³ attack against a newspaper that republished the Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons. The arson attacks destroyed several files in its archive but didn’t injure anyone.

The tail of the Air-Asia plane that crashed into the Java Sea two weeks ago was brought ashore⁴ in Indonesia, amajor success in the slow-moving hunt for wreckage⁵. Meanwhile, there is growing optimism that the searchers are closing in on the plane’s black boxes.

And at the Vatican, Pope Francis baptized 33 babies in the Sistine Chapel⁶ Sunday as part of an annual tradition marking theend of the Christmas season.
