More than 40 world leaders linked arms to march through Paris Sunday. Joining a sea of mourners who flooded Paris’ Republic Square, as a traumatic week comes to a close in France. Hundreds of thousands of Parisians participated in a mass march for unity1 following the deadly attacks at weekly satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo. Officials say this is the largest demonstration2 in French history.
Police in Hamburg, Germany detained two men early Sunday, suspected of an arson3 attack against a newspaper that republished the Charlie Hebdo’s cartoons. The arson attacks destroyed several files in its archive but didn’t injure anyone.
The tail of the Air-Asia plane that crashed into the Java Sea two weeks ago was brought ashore4 in Indonesia, amajor success in the slow-moving hunt for wreckage5. Meanwhile, there is growing optimism that the searchers are closing in on the plane’s black boxes.
And at the Vatican, Pope Francis baptized 33 babies in the Sistine Chapel6 Sunday as part of an annual tradition marking theend of the Christmas season.
