The Israeli military carried out its largest daytime airstrike campaign in Gaza since the 2014 war as Hamas militants² fired dozens of rockets into Israel, threatening to spark a wider conflagration³ after weeks of tensions along the volatile⁴ border.

Eritrea's President has arrived in Ethiopia for his first visit in 22 years amid a dramatic diplomatic thaw⁵ between the once-bitter rivals. President Isaias Afwerki says "this is a historic day for all of us" as a state of war ends.

Two French police motorcycles crashed during a demonstration⁶ in front of President Emmanuel Macron and other guests at the annual Bastille Day Parade on Saturday. The motorcyclists were part of a group tracing patterns on the Place De La Concorde in central Paris as part of it carefully choreographed⁷ performance.
