　　Birdie, where are you going, dear, 亲爱的小鸟，你上哪里去，

　　In such haste? 走得这么匆忙？

　　Grapes are purpling far and near; 远远近近，葡萄都熟了，

　　Stop and taste. 何不停下尝一尝？

　　Apples are reddening on the bough¹; 枝头的苹果，变得红艳艳，

　　Warm winds blow; 沐浴着暖风：

　　Never was world so pleasant as now： 这世界从没有如此美好，

　　Why will you go? 你为何要启程？

　　Who has been filling your feathery head 是谁，把你羽毛下的小脑袋

　　With such dismay 盛满了莫大痛苦，

　　That, with your tail and your wings outspread, 让你展开双翼，翘起尾巴，

　　You hurry away? 匆匆地不愿回顾？

　　Surely if we big folks and wise 若是我们这些聪明的大块头

　　See no cause 找不到缘故，

　　To flee from these blue and sunny skies, 去逃离这蔚蓝的晴空，

　　You might pause 你或许仍将驻足，

　　Pause for a little while, and see ’Tis autumn yet; 驻足片刻吧，来看一看，这秋天的模样，

　　Winter is old and blind, and he May forget. 冬天老了，眼神又不好，他或许把来路遗忘

　　Just for a moment Birdie stops, 小鸟停下了，停了一霎，

　　Winks² his eye 它眼晴忽然轻眨；

　　Like a shining bead³, and nearer hops⁵ 宛若闪光的珍珠，跳到近前，

　　To make reply. 开口作出了回答

　　"Winter 'forget' indeed! Not he! “冬天会健忘？怎么可能！

　　Any linnet Would laugh at the foolish hope, and see Nothing in it. 不管哪只红雀，都会说笑这愚蠢的希望，知道它肯定断绝

　　Could you but see my nest safe swung" 莫非你看不见，我安稳的巢

　　In a great fan palm, 在芭蕉叶里摇晃，

　　With perfumed flower-cups overhung, 头上是盛满香脂的花朵，

　　With their breath of ball! 气息都透着芬芳？

　　"Great gold oranges growing close by, “大红的橘子就生在近旁，

　　Ripen⁶ at will; 成熟得没大没小；

　　A single hop⁴ from my nest, and I Can use my bill. 只需从巢里一跃，就能够消受得没完没了

　　Do you think, when I can see such sweet" Sights and shapes, “你真以为，我已经见到这般甜美的模样，

　　I am likely to linger here and eat Your sour grapes? 还愿意逗留在这里去把你的酸葡萄品尝？

　　‘To see the roses grow pale and die, “还看着玫瑰渐渐枯萎凋谢，

　　And ice and snow 还看着不久之前

　　Fill the nest we built so lovingly A while ago? 我们刚刚垒好的香巢淹没在冰雪之间？

　　"Winter will come: yet stay, if so  “要是你喜欢，就留下吧，

　　To you best seems; 冬天一定会来；

　　We birds are but small，but well we know 我们鸟儿虽小，舒适的意思，

　　What comfort means." 却比谁都明白。”

　　A flick⁷, a whirr——he is off, he is gone, 翅膀一拍，呼啦一响，

　　Lost in the sky; 他就消失在天际，

　　And I shiver and think, how sad I have grown 留下颤抖的我，为自己这副

　　Too big to fly. 沉重的躯壳惋借。

1 bough   

n.大树枝，主枝

2 winks   

v.使眼色( wink的第三人称单数 )；递眼色（表示友好或高兴等）；（指光）闪烁；闪亮

3 bead

4 hop

5 hops   

跳上[下]( hop的第三人称单数 )； 单足蹦跳； 齐足（或双足）跳行； 摘葎草花

参考例句：

• The sparrow crossed the lawn in a series of hops. 那麻雀一蹦一跳地穿过草坪。
• It is brewed from malt and hops. 它用麦精和蛇麻草酿成。

6 ripen   

vt.使成熟；vi.成熟

参考例句：

• I'm waiting for the apples to ripen.我正在等待苹果成熟。
• You can ripen the tomatoes on a sunny windowsill.把西红柿放在有阳光的窗台上可以让它们成熟。

7 flick   

n.快速的轻打，轻打声，弹开；v.轻弹，轻轻拂去，忽然摇动

• He gave a flick of the whip.他轻抽一下鞭子。
• By a flick of his whip,he drove the fly from the horse's head.他用鞭子轻抽了一下，将马头上的苍蝇驱走。
