　　A spider's web is stronger than it looks.

　　蜘蛛网比它看上去的样子结实。

　　Although it is made of thin, delicate strands¹, the web is not easily broken.

　　它虽然由纤细的丝织成，可是不容易坏。

　　However, a web gets torn every day by the insects that kick around in it,

　　不过每天有那么多昆虫在它里面乱踢，

　　and a spider must rebuild it when it gets full of holes.

　　等到它满是窟窿时，蜘蛛只好重新再织。

　　Charlotte liked to do her weaving during the late afternoon,

　　夏洛喜欢在下午后半晌结网，

　　and Fern liked to sit nearby and watch.

　　One afternoon she heard a most interesting conversation and witnessed a strange event.

　　有一天下午，她听到一番再有趣不过的谈话，也亲眼看到了一件怪事。

　　"You have awfully² hairy legs, Charlotte," said Wilbur, as the spider busily worked at her task.

　　“你有毛茸茸的腿啊，夏洛，”当蜘蛛忙着结网的时候，威尔伯对它说。
