 December 10th, 1964Civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Junior accepts his Nobel Peace Prize in Norway’s capital Oslo. The clergyman and activist¹ is honored for his nonviolent campaign to end segregation² of African Americans in the south.

"I still believe that one day mankind will bow before the altars of God and be crowned triumphant³ over war and bloodshed, and nonviolent redemptive goodwill⁴ proclaim the rule of the land.”

1869Women get the right to vote in Wyoming territory, a first step towards securing that right for all women in the United States more than 50 years later.

1958America's first domestic passenger jet flight，a Boeing 707 carrying 111 passengers, travels from New York to Miami in about two and a half hours. 2006Former Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet dies, Pinochet terrorized his opponents for 17 years after taking power in a bloody⁵ coup⁶. Pinochet was 91.

And 1967“Sitting in the morning sun, I'll be sitting when the evening comes.”

Soul singer and songwriter, Otis Redding dies when his private plane crashes near Madison, Wisconsin. He was twenty six years old.
