Doctors treating the former South African President Nelson Mandela say his condition has deteriorated1 in the past 24 hours and is now critical. The news came in a statement issued by the South African presidency2. The revered3 94-year-old former leader has spent the past sixteen days in hospital in Pretoria being treated for a recurrent lung infection.
