Monday was Nick's first day at the National Trust Bank. He wanted to make a good impression. When he arrived at work, everyone was already very busy. No one even bothered 5 to look up from their work. He took his spot at counter number three and began to serve clients as they came in.
星期一是尼克到国家信托银行上班的第一天,他希望能给别人留下一个好印象。他到银行报到时,大家都已经忙得不可开交,忙到没有谁会抬头看他一眼。他在三号柜台就位,开始为进来的客户服务。
The day was going smoothly1 until about 11 am when two men approached his counter. One of them grabbed2 his new tie. The other pointed3 a gun at him. “This is a holdup. Give us the money”, one said.Nick was terrified. “It is my first day, I don't know where the safe is,” he said. “Don't lie to us, get us the money or we'll shoot you.” Nick had to think fast. “Okay, it's down here. Hold on.”
那天本来一直很顺利,直到早上十一点时有两个人走近他的柜台,其中一人抓住他那条新领带,另外一人则用枪指着他说:“抢劫,把钱拿来。” 尼克很害怕地说:“我今天第一天上班,不知道保险箱放哪。”“不要撒谎,快把钱拿出来,不然我就开枪了。”尼克脑筋转得很快:“好吧,保险箱就在这下面,等一下。”
Nick pretended to reach down under his desk. Instead, he got down on the ground, slid under his desk and grabbed both men's legs. He tackled4 them and they fell to the ground. The police were called and Nick saved the day!
尼克假装伸手到他桌子底下,却反而趴到地上了,从桌子底下滑过去抓住那两个人的脚使他们摔倒。银行最后报了警,尼克也化解了那一天的危机!
