The Nightmare Machine is an artificial intelligence project created by three researchers at the MIT Media Lab. They've figured out "how to create the most horrifying¹ human faces possible" with the help of deep learning algorithms. A message on the Nightmare Machine's homepage reads, "Warning: Images on this website are generated by deep learning algorithms and may not be suitable for all users." The scariest images look like faces from hell with flayed² skin, blood, and blackened eye sockets³. What might be the scariest part of the faces is that the machine "learned everything it knows about horror by watching us."
