Sea turtles do not have an easy start to life from the minute they hatch. The baby turtles have to break out of their shell, dash across sand to find safety and food in the water-- and all this with hopes that they will not be eaten by a predator¹.

Fortunately, scientists may have found a way to help. New research in the Journal of Experimental Biology shows that having many siblings² helps baby turtles. In larger crowds, each turtle uses less energy to dig and hence has a higher chance of surviving the journey.
