Mekong River nations are suffering from the most severe drought in decades, affecting tens of millions of people. In response, China has discharged water to help relieve the crisis.
China began offering the emergency water supply since Tuesday, and will last till April 10th. The water from Jinghong Hydropower Station in Yunnan, will enter the lower reaches of the Mekong River.
It will benefit Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. The move comes after major water flow drop of Mekong River's upper reaches, and that's despite China's own drought.
