The Indonesian Transportation Ministry and an Indonesia-China joint venture firm have signed a concession agreement for the Jakarta-Bandung high speed railway.
"This means a key step after the Jakarta-Bandung railway started construction on January 21st. The agreement provides a legal basis for the project. We will work together with Indonesian partners to launch the overall construction by the second half of this month," said Yang Zhongmin, deputy chief engineer, China Railway.
The Indonesian Transportation Ministry will issue a business permit and license for the construction of the railway now that the agreement has been signed. The 5.5 billion dollar railway project will link Indonesia's capital Jakarta and the country's fourth largest city Bandung. Travelling the 150 kilometers between the two cities will be cut from more than the current three hours to less than 40 minutes once the project is completed.
