SIPG hosted Gamba Osaka in Group G of the AFC Champions League. The Chinese side had three points on the board after beating Suwon Samsung Bluewings in the second round with striker Elkeson scoring his first goal for the club. And the Brazilian would put on another excellent display of his abilities against the J-League team.
Ten minutes in, Dario Conca delivers it to Asamoah Gyan and the Ghana striker sets up Elkeson, and the Brazilian skies it well over the goal.
Then off a Conca free kick, Shanghai open the scoring as the defence can't clear the danger and Gyan heads it to Elkeson who taps in to give SIPG a 1-0 lead. It goes off a Gamba man to Gyan and Elkeson has a simple finish.
But after the interval, Gamba hit back when Brazilian Patric rises to emphatically finish with his head from a free-kick. It's a great ball in and Patric is unchallenged.
But parity would only last a matter of moments, with SIPG once more taking the lead when Conca provides a pinpoint cross from the left for Elkeson to powerfully head home his second of the game. A fine cross and Elkeson scores his 18th goal in the Champions League.
And the game would end in a 2-1 win for SIPG who now top Group G.
"I would like to congratulate my team, We are united and we played hard for the entire match. After 2 matches we are making chemistry and communicating well... Our coach MR. Eriksson changed the formation which is why we could win this one so my congratulations to him," Elkeson said.
Thanks to this win, SIPG now find themselves on top of Group G at the halfway stage, with Gamba Osaka third after suffering a first defeat of the campaign.

Jiangsu Suning drop to second in Group E
In the other match in Group E, leaders Jiangsu Suning travelled to Japan to face FC Tokyo on matchday three.
Goalless after 45 minutes, the visitors create the first opening in the second half. But referee calls offside on the Jiangsu effort.
And Jiangsu continue to attack through a free -kick and find the back of the net on 68 minutes. But Alex Teixeira's effort is disallowed after the referee had stopped play for a foul by Ji Xiang for dangerous play, following his overhead kick.
And it would end goalless at the Ajinomoto Stadium. Jiangsu and FC Tokyo square off again in the fourth round back in China on April 6th.
The draw drops Jiangsu to second place in Group E, after South Korea's Jeonbuk Motors defeated Vietnam's Binh Duong 2-0 at home to go to the top on six points.
