On Thursday, China Qionghai Boao Airport in Hainan Province saw its first plane land. The new facility is on the same island as the Boao forum venue, and shortens the travel for the thousands of incoming guests over the next few days.

This newly-opened airport is ready for the waves of arrivals.
"The airport now has pilot operation routes connecting Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhou City, and Chongqing Municipality. In the near future, more air routes will be available, providing convenience for more guests to attend the annual event," said Cai Jing, chairman and CEO of Boao Airport Management Company.
The airport is located only 15 kilometers away from the BFA International Conference Center.
It was under construction from May 2015 and completed last month. It got its license for civil use on March 11th.
"To park more planes, we rearranged our 25 landing slots and can now have maximum 36 planes parked. If we have more than that, planes can drop passengers off here, and then be redirected to park in nearby Haikou Meilan Airport or Sanya Phoenix Airport," Cai said.
An alternative way to reach the venue is by train, and from the station, another 20 minutes. High-speed trains run 11 time each day.
Security is tight, with check-points for vehicles peppered around the island.
The venue is surrounded by water, and there is 24-hour water patrol.
