The new law has caused neighboring countires to worry. Both the Chinese and South Korean Foreign Ministries have called on Japan to do more to enhance mutual trust, and to promote regional peace and stability.
"Japan's Asian neighbors and the international community are concerned about this issue due to historical reasons,"
"With regards to Japan's moves in military and security affairs, we hope that the Japanese side would draw lessons from history, stick to the path of peaceful development, handle its military and security policies prudently, and do more to enhance mutual trust with neighboring countries so as to contribute to peace and stability in the region," said Hong Lei, spokesman of Chinese Foreign Ministry.
"In regard to Japan's security bills that took effect today, the South Korean government has been maintaining the stance that Japan's defence and security policies should adhere to the spirit of pacifist laws and move towards a direction that contributes to the region's peace and stability in a transparent way.
"In this respect, we plan to monitor Japan's security policy directions from now," said Cho June-Hyuck, spokesman of S.Korean Foreign Ministry.
