At the ICC world T20, pride was at stake when South Africa took on Sri Lanka in Delhi. In a disastrous defence of their trophy, the Sri Lankans have only secured one win since arriving in India while the Proteas lost their last two matches by narrow margins and are unfortunate not to be in with a shout of the last 4. There would be nothing narrow about this encounter though, as AB de Villiers men put more misery on the defending champs.

 

Sri Lanka bat first and are off to a flyer. Dinest Chandimal shows Dale Steyn what he thinks of his short ball as he thumps it for 6 to make it 25 without loss.

 

Captain Tillakarante Dilshan gets in on the act in the 4th with this maximum to increase his teams total to 45 for no wicket. But when Aaron Phangiso bowls Chandimal the momentum shifts in South Africa's favour at 45 for 1.

 

The Lions then lose 6 wickets for 51 runs. This 6 from Dasun Shanaka is a brief highlight as they are all out for 120.

 

South Africa's run chase get's off to a terrible start. Hashim Amla, who was run out in the previous game, causes another mix up and Quinton de Kock is the victim of a direct hit from Dilshan

 

But Amla makes up for his error and leads the Proteas to recover to 91 for 2. Here he clears the ropes to put them within 24 of victory with 8 wickets in hand.

 

The captain de Villers wraps up proceedings with another 6. The win comes with 3 overs and 8 wickets to spare but doesn't prevent early elimination.
