CCTV9英语新闻：First report on quality of higher education

The Chinese education ministry has released the first report on the quality of China’s higher education. The report says there are currently 37 million students in higher education, among them more than 26 million are undergraduate students. This number is the largest in the world.

 

There are currently more than 2,800 colleges and universities in China, with a gross enrollment rate of 40 percent, the second highest in the world. The report also says that in recent years, many colleges and universities show a sign of homogenization. All universities want to transform into research-oriented schools.

 

But it is important for the schools to develop their own characteristics. This report is based on evaluations in various areas, including social demand, educational resources and the satisfaction levels of students and employers.

 

"The aim is to find out how to teach, what teaching materials to use and what training mode to follow. We want to truly benefit the students and let the employers feel that we provide high quality students,” said Wu Yan, Chinese Education Ministry.
