In China, competition among the country’s leading tech and auto firms to build the the best driver-less car is revving up.

“We click this location, and click ‘start,’ and the car will drive to our location automatically,” says Du Jianyu, an engineer with Faw Group.

And the car knows to give way to pedestrians. This smart car was independently developed by China’s First Auto Works Group.

“Braking, turning, engine, display, and the phone...all these systems have to work together to realize this function,” said Liu Qiuzheng, engineer with Faw Group.

Well, this car does look different. A razor radar to get 3D data of objects to determine the car’s distance and direction from the barriers around. It is expected to hit the market in 2025.

But some driverless cars are already out on the road. In Central China’s Wuhan, the country’s first such route was opened last week. It is just over 17 kilometers long you just need an app to get a free ticket and for safety reasons, it comes equipped with a driver in case of emergency, and the cars run on relatively less crowded streets.
