CCTV9英语新闻：Talks highlight China-New Zealand trade, economic cooperation

Talks between leaders from China and New Zealand are expected to focus on the Free Trade Agreement, and strengthened economic cooperation.

 

Prior to his trip, Key said he looked forward to continuing discussions with Chinese leaders on how to improve the China-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement, signed eight years ago. Since then, trade between China and New Zealand has more than doubled, reaching almost 12.96 billion US dollars. An FTA upgrade will allow both countries to modernise the agreement and ensure it continues to drive the relationship forward.

 

Key said China is a key destination for New Zealand goods exports, and an important consumer of New Zealand services. He also said this visit provides an opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relationship and showcase New Zealand's creativity, innovation, and high-tech credentials.

 

Key will also address students at the prestigious Tsinghua University and meet with senior Chinese business leaders in Beijing.

 

Prime Minister John Key will hold official meetings with senior provincial and city leaders in the major centers of Xi'an and Shanghai.

 

In his first visit to Xi'an, capital of western China's Shaanxi province, he will support New Zealand businesses and cultural links with Xi'an, and visit the city's international trade and logistics hub -- a part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

 

Key wil also help to promote New Zealand's creative industries by attending the launch of the New Zealand Film Festival in Shanghai.
