The city of Wuhan has decided¹ to conduct nucleic acid tests on all local residents in the coming 10 days.

The decision came after six new infections were reported over the weekend in the former epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in China.

These were the first new confirmed coronavirus cases reported in Hubei province in over a month.

Chinese health authorities say no new domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported on the Chinese mainland on Monday.

One imported case was reported in Inner Mongolia.

The country has reported nearly 1,700 imported cases.

Most of the patients have been discharged from hospitals after recovery, with 80 still hospitalized.

China has suspended exports of COVID-19 prevention supplies through "market procurement² trade" mechanism³.

Affected⁴ exports include testing kits⁵, medical masks, protective clothing, ventilators and infrared⁶ thermometers.

The "market procurement trade" mechanism has been implemented⁷ since 2014 in 14 places in China to help domestic trade merchants develop foreign trade.

But officials suggest it cannot apply with products that need to be subject to export tariffs⁹ and inspection¹⁰ and quarantine measures.

China has unveiled the second list of U.S. goods which will be excluded from the second round of additional tariffs.

The items eligible¹¹ for tariff⁸ waivers include rare earth ore.

The exemption¹² will be effective for a year starting May 19.

China's consumer inflation eased last month on falling food prices.

The consumer price index grew 3.3 percent year on year, moderating from the 4.3-percent gain in March.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices went down 0.9 percent while food prices dropped 3 percent.

Meanwhile, producer prices continued to fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic and a persistent¹³ slump¹⁴ in global commodities prices.

The producer price index fell 3.1 percent year on year in the month.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed the role of daylily growing and processing in helping¹⁵ local people get rid of poverty.

The President made the remarks during an inspection tour in Shanxi Province.

He suggested daylily could develop into a big industry with great prospects¹⁶.

During his tour, the president also visited Yungang Grottoes and called for better protection of cultural relics¹⁷.

China has sent two satellites into orbit to test the space-based Internet of Things (IoT) communications technology.

The two satellites are the first stars of the "Xingyun Engineering" project, a network of 80 low-orbit communications satellites.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across the African continent has surpassed 63,000 as of yesterday, with nearly 2,300 deaths.
