三星推出'死亡更新' 未召回Note 7将变'砖块'

 　　In an effort to get US customers to turn off their explosion-prone devices, Samsung will be issuing a software update on Dec 19 that can make the Galaxy¹ Note 7 useless bricks.

　　三星公司将于19日发布可以使盖乐世Note 7变成无用砖块的软件更新，此举旨在让美国消费者关闭其手中容易爆炸的设备。

　　The update will prevent the phones from charging and will "eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices," the South Korean tech giant said in a statement.

　　这家韩国科技巨头在一份声明中称，该更新将阻断盖乐世Note 7充电，“使其不再具备移动设备的运作能力。”

　　According to the company, 93% of Note 7 devices in the US have been turned in after they were recalled three months ago following reports of phones bursting into flames, but there are still roughly 133,000 devices unaccounted for.

　　Samsung issued a recall for the Note 7 in September. Customers were asked to return the device for a refund² or a replacement³ phone.

　　In October, it expanded the recall in the United States to include all replacement devices the company offered.

　　今年10月，三星将在美国的召回范围扩大了至所有由该公司提供的置换设备。

　　"Verizon will not be taking part in this update because of the added risk this could pose to Galaxy Note 7 users that do not have another device to switch to," according to a statement from the company.

　　"We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note 7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season. We do not want to make it impossible to contact family, first responders or medical professionals in an emergency situation."
