[03:50.05]A Long March rocket carrying the Shenzhou V space capsule
[03:54.37]left China and headed for space.
[03:56.75]The nation was watching as its first space hero
[03:59.93]rose high above the earth.
[04:01.71]For 21 hours,Yang Liwei was in our hearts and minds,
[04:06.31]as he completed the historic commission.
[04:08.77]Although Yang Liwei is a hero
[04:11.54]and deserve the celebration he received,
[04:14.26]the achievement is not the result of one person's work.
[04:18.05]Sending a man into space
[04:20.05]has long been one of the goals of the Chinese space program.
[04:24.13]And thousands of people have worked together to make it possible.
[04:27.77]When Yang Liwei returned to the earth,
[04:30.38]many reporters were waiting to ask him about his experience
[04:34.50]They asked him about his background and training,about his family,
[04:38.95]and about what he had seen in the space.
[04:41.69]Many reporters wanted to know
[04:43.76]if he had seen the Great Wall from space.
[04:46.53]His answer was"no". He hadn't seen it.

[04:51.65]So what did Yong Liwei have to do in order to become an astronaut?
[04:56.08]First,he studied hard in school,
[04:58.46]where he was especially good at maths.
[05:00.78]After graduating, Yang Liwei was trained to be a fighter pilot.
[05:05.37]In order to be successful,
[05:07.38]he had to develop both his mind and his body.
[05:10.57]To become an astronaut,he has to prove that he was strong,
[05:14.66]intelligent and determined to succeed.
[05:17.25]He also had to learn about the earth,the weather, how to recognize stars,
[05:22.58]how rockets work and how to find one' s way in space.
[05:26.83]Young was always good at maths but he had problems with English.
[05:31.85]He knew that he must be good at all subjects,
[05:34.88]if he wanted to be an astronaut.
[05:37.16]So he asked his wife to practise English with him.
[05:40.57]After much hard work Yang succeeded and passed the English test.
[05:45.39]Yang Liwei is a brave man.
[05:48.32]People who have worked with him,say that he knows how to deal with danger.
[05:53.28]Once when Young Liwei was flying a plane,one of the engines stopped,
[05:58.80]Yang stayed calm and with great skill managed to keep the plane in air
[06:05.12]Just as he reached the airport,the second engine stopped too.
[06:09.89]Still calm,he landed safely without power.
[06:13.64]Even though,Young Liwei have returned from space,his mission continues.
[06:18.44]He will continue his work in the space program.
[06:21.55]And will tell people about space and his experience.

[21:18.54]Black men worked in factories or operated elevators.
[21:22.67]But they couldn't become firemen, policemen or shop assistants.
[21:27.06]They could become doctors,teachers or even headmasters
[21:30.83]but only in the black community.
[21:32.99]Was it possible for black students to enter universities?
[21:36.70]There were cases of black people trying to go to
[21:39.79]state universities in Birmingham.
[21:41.82]But nobody thought they have much of a chance.
[21:44.52]Every possibly excuse was brought up
[21:46.59]to stop black students from entering an university.
[21:50.30]We never knew of any black students going to university in the south.
[21:54.86]Were there any other legal obstacles that African American faced?
[21:58.91]Well,of course.We couldn't vote.
[22:01.57]Even though I was a teacher for more than 25 years,
[22:05.45]I couldn't vote until the late 60s.
[22:08.45]What about the Montgomery bus boycott?
[22:11.50]We were always treated the same as Rosa Park on buses
[22:15.49]anywhere in the south.
[22:16.83]Most of us had to ride the buses.
[22:19.13]We bought a ticket in front of the bus
[22:21.50]and then we were onto the back door to get in.
[22:24.68]A sign marked with the white section ended
[22:27.43]and the black section begin.
[22:29.52]Even worse was when some of the whites would get up,
[22:33.31]some drivers would refuse to move the signs back up
[22:36.83]so that we could have more room and that few more of us could sit down.
