Two municipal officials in the city of Dalian that had their homes burglarized have been placed under investigation¹ after police learned that an unusual amount of cash and valuables were stolen in thefts that took place March and December 2013. Prosecutors² say robbers took more than 1 million yuan worth of cash and other items from the home of Li Shengjun, director of the city's Fiscal³ Bureau, and a similar amount from Xu Lixin, director of the Dalian's Food and Drug Administration. The ringleader of the heist told investigators⁴ he did not think the officials would report losses to police because they were corrupt⁵. Indeed, Li did not report the alleged⁶ theft at his home. But a local official told Caixin police got involved after thegang kidnapped Xu's wife to get a key to the couple's home.
