木偶奇遇记 第145期:匹诺曹落入鱼腹(7)

 　　"Faster, Pinocchio! The monster will get you! There he is! There he is! Quick, quick, or you are lost!" “再快点，皮诺乔！怪物要追上你了！它来了！它来了！快，快，要不就完了！

　　Pinocchio went through the water like a shot—swifter and swifter. He came close to the rock. 皮诺乔游得越来越快，像一颗出膛的子弹，游到了礁石那儿。

　　The Goat leaned over and gave him one of her hoofs¹ to help him up out of the water. Alas²! It was too late. 山羊弯下身子，伸出一个蹄子帮他从水里出来！哎，太迟了！

　　The monster overtook him and the Marionette³ found himself in between the rows of gleaming white teeth. 怪物追上他，木偶发现自己就在怪物几排发光的白色牙齿之间。

　　Only for a moment, however, for the Shark took a deep breath and, as he breathed, 就一会儿的功夫，怪物做了一个深呼吸，

　　he drank in the Marionette as easily as he would have sucked an egg. 呼吸间就像吸鸡蛋似的，把木偶喝了下去。

　　Then he swallowed him so fast that Pinocchio, falling down into the body of the fish, lay stunned⁴ for a half hour. 它狼吞虎咽地把皮诺乔吞下去，皮诺乔一下子掉到了鲨鱼肚子里，整整昏迷了半小时。

　　When he recovered his senses the Marionette could not remember where he was. 等到这个木偶从昏迷中醒来，已经不记得自己在哪了。

　　Around him all was darkness, a darkness so deep and so black that for a moment he thought he had put his head into an inkwell. 他周围漆黑一片，太黑以至于他还以为自己把头钻到了一瓶墨水里。

　　He listened for a few moments and heard nothing. 他侧着耳朵听了一会儿，什么声音也没听到。

　　Once in a while a cold wind blew on his face. 他只是不时觉得有一阵冷风吹在脸上。

　　At first he could not understand where that wind was coming from, 起先他不知道风是哪儿来的，

　　but after a while he understood that it came from the lungs of the monster. 可后来明白了，风是从怪物的肺里来的。

　　I forgot to tell you that the Shark was suffering from asthma⁵, so that whenever he breathed a storm seemed to blow. 我忘记告诉你鲨鱼害了哮喘，它一呼吸就像一阵风暴刮过。

　　Pinocchio at first tried to be brave, 皮诺乔起先想要鼓起勇气，

　　but as soon as he became convinced that he was really and truly in the Shark's stomach, he burst into sobs⁶ and tears. 可他一确定自己真的是在海怪的肚子里，就开始抽泣流泪。
